How old is your hardware?

I have always been fascinated with computer hardware. The feeling you get when struggling for days trying to get a better frame rate, smoother game play or better visuals is tedious but when you upgrade to a new graphics card for example and you are able to play everything in full without worrying about it; its fantastic. Some people are not so willing to upgrade, this may be due to their fanatical situation or that they are not bothered about playing the game to its full potential. New technology can do a lot for our systems whether it be betting better visual graphics, being able to run more programs at the same time to increase efficiency or to even save us money by using a more efficient power supply unit. There has been a lot of good hardware released over the past decade. The one i remember the most is defiantly the 8800 GT. I remember purchasing this card and I was able to play every game i wanted with stupidly high frames per second.

As steam hosts a wide variety of games and

around 2.5 to 3 millions people are always on-line, steam is a good tool to find out what hardware / software people have installed. They recently did a a scan of most people computers (If you allowed it) to see what hardware / software you have installed. The results are below. This is an interesting read and you can compare your hardware to the masses (well the masses that play on steam.) Check out the full stats here

  1. Interesting read! I still have an old GeForce 7600GT laying around that I use when troubleshooting and had two in SLI back in the day. Never had an 8800GT but I still own a variant, the 9800GT.
